MORNING Workshops

Making an Impact in our Community’s Empty Places

Speaker: Alex Lozada, Mountain Christian Church

Most places in our city are crowded with people and things, yet they are still spiritually empty. Let’s fill our community’s spiritually empty places by connecting in real relationships to those who are far from Jesus.

The Five Fundamental Practices of Impact-Makers

Speaker: Daniel Smith, Mid-Atlantic Christian University

Impact-makers employ five fundamental processes to achieve extraordinary results - these five processes are evident in the New Testament and should be evident in local churches today. This workshop will enable participants to evaluate their own application of these processes and improve their church’s impact.

Why We Leave The Church: An Open Discussion

(High-School, College, & Young Adults Only)

Speaker: CL&Y Fellowship, Staten Island Christian Church

You've heard the stats - college students and young adults are leaving their churches more than ever before...and we've all thought about it ourselves.

Let's talk about it - join us in a closed-door, open-floor discussion of the challenges we face in our home churches and how we can bring change to the churches that raised us.

CL&Y (Christians, Leaders, & Youth) Fellowship is the college-age and older young adults group currently involved in multiple ministries at Staten Island Christian Church.

The Gospel: Bearing Fruit in You

Speaker: Joe Wilson, Fork Christian Church

The impact of the gospel in your life is more than an eternal unrealized one. The gospel is meant to affect your days now, and your daily choices. In this workshop we will explore the implications of knowing and understanding the gospel, how the gospel should influence our daily lives and how it shapes the way we interact with others.

The House That Ruth Built

Speaker: Cindy Hannon, East Northport Christian Church

From the words of Ruth, “For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you live, I will live; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.” Learn from the house that Ruth built -how Naomi followed her husband’s lead and trusted God even when she felt he dealt bitterly with her, and how God’s eternal and loving kindness brought her life full circle. In this workshop, we learn how the women in David's ancestry continue to impact the course of history.

AFTERNOON Workshops

Making an Impact Through Living the Gospel

Speaker: Chuck Sackett, Madison Park Christian Church

Paul commends the Colossians for their response to the Gospel and prays that the gospel will transform the way they live. Believers impact their world when the Gospel compels a different life from the rest of the world. The life of a believer impacts when it is characterized by pleasing God, bearing fruit and increasing in the image of God. These conditions manifest themselves in eminently practical ways on a daily basis.

Your Impact is Now – What Are You Waiting For?

Speaker: Julie Nevel, Vibrant - A Christian Church

Many people wait for certain things to happen before they feel they can accomplish their purpose or make a difference in the world. But your legacy starts today! You touch a world around you in a way that no one else does. God presents opportunities and opens doors, and it’s up to us to recognize them and say “yes” to being used by God. Let’s explore together how we can build a living legacy as we bloom where we are planted and scatter good seeds!

Jesus Meets Culture - Past and Present

Speaker: James Lane, North End Church of Christ

Our society today does not take the Church seriously, and this is not entirely society’s fault. The disciples of Colossians were dealing with three cultural streams - Greek, Judaism and local paganism. What is discovered is the impact Jesus makes in every area of life; no corner of society is exempt from His impact!

Building a Culture of Life for the Next Generation

Speaker: Doreen Jansson, Soundview Pregnancy Services

The mission of Soundview Pregnancy Services is to uphold the Sanctity of Life by providing emotional, spiritual and practical support for women and men facing an unplanned pregnancy.

This workshop will be focused on how can we become “Life Disciples” in our own churches and communities?  How can we respond to women and men who are facing this pregnancy decision in a way that will balance compassion and truth?  How can we uphold the sanctity and dignity of human life every day?  How can we encourage our youth to value the design God has provided for relationships and marriage?

We will unpack these questions and more.

Make An Impact As You Are Transformed

Speaker: Cindy Hannon, East Northport Christian Church

Make an impact as you continue to be transformed. As in David’s prayer, “Create in me a clean heart, and renew a steadfast spirit with in me.” (Psalm 51:10) and the words of Paul “If anyone is in Christ he is a new creature; old things have passed away, behold, new things have come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17), we can make an impact in our own lives, resulting in how we impact others when we draw near to the heart of God.
